Position Description
The CIS Lab Technician assists the IT Infrastructure and System Administration staff and CIS faculty in the daily operation, organization, and maintenance of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) lab classrooms. This position performs various tasks both in-person and remotely, and provides timely, responsive assistance to CIS program faculty and students in their use of lab facilities. In addition to these tasks, the CIS Lab Technician plays a key role in supporting projects that may start and finish throughout the year as needed. This is a great opportunity to build hands-on experience while contributing to the CIS curriculum at Highline College.
This is a part-time position, working an average of 16 hours per week. This position reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure and System Administration. This position requires a commitment to remain employed and enrolled as a Highline student through the end of the 2026–27 school year.

Essential Tasks
- Image, configure, and prepare CIS lab workstations and other hardware components for instructional use.
- Maintain and update lab computer images, software repositories, and master images each quarter through the CIS-vSphere virtual environment.
- Respond to support requests from CIS faculty & students through the ITS Help Desk ticketing platform.
- Conduct basic troubleshooting in the CIS lab alongside the IT Infrastructure and System Administration team and CIS faculty.
- Support virtual machine (instructional and student-based) setup and maintenance, including deploying/updating templates and assisting instructors with meeting VM requirements.
- Managing class roster and virtual folder assignments.
- Assist CIS program for other projects and critical tasks as directed by CIS & ITS.
- Organize and maintain the physical CIS space in Building 29, track hardware inventory, surplus equipment, and keep internal & end-user documentation up to date.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School graduation or equivalent
- Must be actively enrolled as a Highline College student for the entire 2026–27 academic year
- Working knowledge of computer hardware, software installation, and general IT concepts
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with vSphere and/or other virtualization platforms
- Working knowledge of virtualization concepts and platforms
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with all students, faculty, and staff
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Currently enrolled CIS student at Highline College
- Working knowledge of networking concepts such as DHCP, routing, and VLANs
- Working knowledge of Active Directory and LDAP
- Demonstrated experience with VyOS routing
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Outlook
