Position Description

TRiO Tutors assist and coach TRiO students in becoming a more successful learner by reinforcing instructor lectures and the classroom experience. TRiO Tutors use various methods and examples of skills, strategies and techniques to support academic success. The main function of TRiO Tutors is to provide one-on-one tutoring for students who are enrolled in the TRiO program. TRiO Tutors specialize in one or several course topics, offers flexible hours and an opportunity to learn and engage with peers.

Hours: 10 – 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm

**Due to online learning environment, we are more flexible with the operating hours, but maximum hours per week will still be determined by supervisor**

Duties and Responsibilities:

Tutoring
● Provide one-on-one academic support with students during assigned and/or drop-in hours
● Assist with peer coaching, tips, strategies and techniques to enhance learning
● Prepare and plan for future tutoring sessions; may include tutee communication
● Make general referrals to college services, supports and resources
● Maintain accurate tutoring logs and record keeping in congruent with federal grant
● Maintain strict confidentiality of student’s files, records, discussions and tutorial relationship
● Facilitate group studying programs with direction from supervisor
● Enroll and participate in the College Readiness & Learning Association Tutor Training course provided by
partner programs
● Maintain welcoming, open and clean environment

Other Duties
● Assist staff with office activities, filing, maintaining records, tutoring coordination, etc.
● Participate in regular on-going training and staff meetings in TRiO
● Be a team player with peers and in group projects
● Conduct quarterly self-evaluations

Qualifications

Completed at least one quarter at Highline College
● Must enroll 6 or more credits per quarter

● Received a minimum GPA of 3.5 in course in which tutoring is being done
● Overall minimum GPA of 3.0
