Work Study – Community Pantry Student Ambassador

Schedule: Part -Time (up to 10 hours per week), Tuesday through Thursday
Who Can Apply: Work Study Eligible Students
Wage: Starting at $16.66

Position Description:
The Community Pantry Student Ambassador position offers students an opportunity to work at the Community Pantry as well as represent and promote the Community Pantry to all students, staff, and faculty members. Student Ambassadors will become well-versed in the operation of the Highline Community Pantry through serving their colleagues and peers every week while deepening their professional development skills. Work Study Student Ambassadors will gain experience in client and guest service, food distribution management, local food security efforts, Snack Station operations, food safety and storage practices, logistics management while working with a diverse team dedicated to service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work Study Student Ambassadors will participate in the following service areas:

  1. Assist in the daily and weekly operation of the Highline Community Food Pantry, including:
    • Prepare, display, and distribute food items (produce, dairy, canned food, frozen protein, etc.) during the community pantry’s days of service
    • Help receive, sort, and store weekly deliveries of temperature-controlled foods
    • Greet and assist guests of the community pantry during all hours of service
    • Educate students and staff about Benefits Hub and Community Pantry services
    • Conduct deliveries to snack areas around campus
  2. Help reduce campus food and basic needs insecurities through increasing awareness of the Benefits Hub services by conducting various outreach activities. Examples such as the following:
    • Create social media content
    • Create and hand out flyers for students
    • Support the campus food pantry through outreach and engagement activities such as attending campus tabling events
    • Translations of materials
    • Support fellow students with scheduling appointments with a Support Coach.
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • English proficiency and additional language skills are highly desirable
  • Understanding of systemic racism and commitment to anti-racist work to ensure outputs are relevant and accessible to students
  • Flexibility and quick problem-solving skills to balance the variety of service activities and any potential shift in student/program priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff members, partners, and community members
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with team, partners, and the campus community
  • Ability to regularly lift 20-50 pounds and be standing for up to four hours
