Work Study Library Assistant

Department: Library, Circulation Services
Hours: Up to 12 hours per week
Wage: $16.66

Must be Work-Study Eligible only.
What is Work Study? If you receive Financial Aid, you may be eligible for Work Study. Running Start Students and International Students are not eligible for Work Study.

Reporting to the Library Circulation Services Supervisor, this is customer service-oriented job.

Qualifications:

  • English Language proficient in: reading / writing / speaking – to perform required job tasks
  • Experience using Highline College electronic resources Canvas, ctcLink; and Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision, and maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills while working in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Curious, creative, and willing to learn new things
  • Must always be on time to work; willing to work closing shifts

Responsibilities:

  • Learn the Dewey Decimal Cataloging System; learn to shelf and locate library materials
  • Assist students / staff / faculty / general public at the 2nd floor Circulation Desk
  • Perform basic library circulation: check materials in and out; renew books on loan
  • Answer directional questions about the library and other building 25 departments
  • Assist students who need help using library printers or copy machines
  • Maintain your work schedule and time sheet records accurately
  • Assist with maintaining a neat and orderly library environment
  • Assist with evacuating the building during emergencies

General physical requirements:

  • Continually move throughout the library to assist students, and perform essential functions of the position
  • Stand and/or sit for extended period of time
  • Able to push loaded book carts
  • Occasionally access materials that may be above head or at ground level
